Helmut.. I see why I haven't noticed anything..
I don't normally do 5k @month via paypal, largely because I get money from a variety of sources, many of whom send checks, or even pay cash (getting to be a rare occasion). Moreover, many people (for their own reasons mostly, not mine)  send $ as friend where there are no fees.

in any case, the 2.9% doesn't bother me

Rich,
you will not notice this, unless you do the math. I would have to look up their exact limits, but the principle is this: You make less than $5000 in a month, they will charge you 2,9% the next month
Over $5,000 but under $20,000, the fee is 2,2%
Over $20,000, it‘s 1,9%
Bigshot sellers will save nothing from this, but the vast majority of Paypal clients will pay more. Small amounts for most single transactions, so small that most recipients won‘t even notice, but a very nice increase in revenue in the big scale. And since we‘re at it: For those of you who make currency payments with Paypal, one thing you NEVER NEVER NEVER want to do is to allow Paypal to do the currency conversion for you. This is of course their default setting for any payment, so you want to change this to ‚let the credit card company determine the exchange rate‘. Here‘s why: Aside from their lousy exchange rate, which is much worse than the rate your credit card company gives you, Paypal charges an ‚exchange fee‘, ranging from 4% to 8%, depending on currency, so you end up paying about 6-10% more, and that‘s serious money. Most credit card companies charge about 2% for the exchange, if you use a currency broker, you can bring this down to 0.3%.

I don't even know what that is Helmut. I don't believe I have seen such an effect on my transactions.

I wonder if that doesn't affect the USA?

It's still a darn shame, as ebay used to be such a great place for
both buyers and sellers. That was a LONG time ago, of course. Now
it's nothing but another money grabbing scheme for the empty suits
and their bottomless corporate greed. And yes, the ebay bank seems
    the next logical step.
As to Paypal: Like ebay, they also manage to find new ways to
reach deeper in our pockets. Their last 'improvement' now has the
commission based on previous month's turnaround. So if you have a
slow month, they will punish you with higher fees.

I stopped selling on ebay in 2005 and since then have only
sold online via my site or Facebook posts (done lots of money
        by facebook)
When I sell on my own site, I have no fees other than paypal.
I couldn't be happier. Of course, I've had a serious internet
presence since my first website in 1994 (www.comic-art.com)
and so I was already positioned right to be able to go my own way.

Yes, ebay changed it's system back in August.  If you want
to sell on ebay in the U.S., you have to now be a part of
their managed payment plan.  They told me they are
systamatically going to that system for every
country in the world within the next two years.    So, the
buyer's fund for your item no longer go to Paypal, the go
to ebay and ebay keeps the funds for 3 days before they
            send it directly to
your bank account which takes another 3 days.  The
percentage of what they take went up a bit and they take
their fees on the item price + sales tax + shipping. So,
if you sold an item for
$100 and the sale tax was $9 and the shipping was $15, you
are going to pay fees on $124.  I talked to someone at
ebay and asked "how can you charge me fees on the sales
            tax that I never see".
I was basically told, that's the way it is.
            So, that's the scoop.

Creative accounting at its best. It’s like charging a fee
            on postage costs.

            Hi all,

As life rolls on, I have decided to start giving away /
throwing away / consigning / selling on eeekbay whatever I
own ... that my wife and daughter are not interested in
collecting / keeping, (which just happens to be damn near
            everything).

I looked into the transaction details on some items
previously sold. I noticed what appears to be some
accounting errors, so natch, I contacted and found out:

When a buyer pays for an item sold on eeekbay, they are
(most likely) charged a local tax to be paid by the buyer,
and that tax is also added to the final value of the item,
and then the seller is charged whatever percentage fee on
            the added final value fee.

            Creative accounting?

            New math?

            Thoughts?
