I quite understand that the major auctions don’t want to sell low value items because their costs in terms of staffing, etc don’t make it viable.
However, there is actually a huge market for posters and lobby cards that are priced between under AUD$50.00 or US$30.00. In the last five years. my sales have increased massively through my website and eBay. During that time, retail prices have increased significantly so it has been a win / win situation. Whilst I do sell many higher value items, a percentage of the transactions that I process on a daily basis are for items of lower value. I'm still selling a lot of posters under €100, or $100 or whatever. I'm not actively buying low-end material anymore, but a couple of low-end poster sales will buy me dinner, and that's still good enough for me. Also, I always kept a low overhead and I still work alone, and that makes a hell of a difference. Let's be realistic here, there are A LOT more people out there willing and/or able to pay €30 for a poster than €3000 buyers. And the higher the price goes, the thinner the air gets. Would I love to sell a €10,000 poster every week? Of course I would. Will that ever happen? Not in my lifetime. As far as that new $49 minimum goes, that's just another case of Corporate Greed and nothing else. Like any other Corporation, Heritage couldn't care less about you, me, or anybody else. All they care about is raking in more money than last year, and even more money next year. Everything I have bought from Heritage in recent years was way over $200, so personally I couldn't care less. There was a time when I frequently looked over their Sunday auctions. In recent years, I have browsed them every now and then, but with their new $49 minimum that is a waste of my time. I'll be 62 this year, and this business has kept me alive and kicking for 30 years by now. I still have no clue what a 'business plan' even is, but apparently I'm doing something right here. At this point, I have aquired a vast amount of knowledge and a reasonably large amount of merchandise, so I am reasonably optimistic that this will carry me through to the end. That said, if I was 30 years younger, I would be seriously afraid. And, of course, there is no such thing as a 'retirement plan' either. Helmut Gesendet: Dienstag, 6. It isn't worth the time to sell stuff below $100 for me, because my business costs only keep increasing and I'm needing to make more and more money to cover the bills and my own paycheck. fact: it costs at least $25 to cover the expense & time of selling anything, and then there is merchandise costs, so where is the profit margin? also, I honestly have no idea why people send low value posters to any auction, beyond their own ability to sell them or having any interest to do the shipping part. Campbell's soup isn't even $1 anymore and unlike poster dealers, the supermarket sells through daily. I'll let Wal Mart & Wal Mart type auctions sell $1 posters. Even the non-Heritage auctions that sell posters for $1 aren't selling $1 posters. They're selling $50 posters for $1 (and being proud of it, for some odd reason, as their daily promotions exclaim) or if it's on linen, they're selling a $100 poster for that dollar, because as stated in their promo, they won't take posters under $50 value and when they do, they bundle them up in lots of 50-100 posters or more (netting the consignors pennies per poster) selling low value posters for any business is in reality, a dead end, and the only people who can afford to do that are those that sell from their garage after they get home from their regular job, and just doing it for extra cash.
