The following way to experience the emptiness of eternity comes Dr. Hubert 
Benoit
as described by Ken Wilber in "The Spectrum of Consciousness:"

1. Get comfortable in soft, cozy chair.
2. Close your eyes and listen for awhile to your chattering mind.
3. Then seek out eternal emptiness by asking it to speak to you.
4. Ask yourself, "Speak, I'm listening" and wait for answer.
5. The silence you experience is It.

I can only hold the silence for a short moment, and find it somewhat 
frightening.
