Betterness is measured by both DQ and SQ, as in the following:

increase in power to control hostile forces is directed toward static 
quality. Without Dynamic Quality the organism cannot grow. Without static

I agree that what I said was something of an overstatement. But DQ is much
more likely to lead away from 'betterness' than toward it. 'Growth' is a
static pattern that depends primarily on SQ in the environment; temperature,
moisture, chemistry, gravity and so forth. If these are subject to
unpredictable variation, that is, with DQ then grow can not occur either.
But yes balance or harmony is a critical factors.
