As the next oldest participant - after Magnus - I qualify here. BTW
where are these from, the FAQ ..or? Anyway, in my opinion all is valid
except the first part of paragraph four.
4. Dynamic Quality and static quality. There are many ways to
divide Quality but the best way is into patterns of Dynamic and
static value or experience. Dynamic Quality is pure experience;
static quality is filtered experience. Dynamic Quality creates
the world; static quality preserves it. Dynamic Quality is more
aesthetic than static quality. Neither Dynamic nor static quality
can survive without the other..
There are no other way to divide Quality than the said way, or varieties
thereof, I once collected examples but now they reside in some frozen
PC and my memory froze this moment too. "Unstable/Stable" is one,
but there are more, the first "Romantic/Classic" also has traces of it.
About DQ/SQ being some arbitrary way of dividing Quality rests on the
well-known postulate that the MOQ is just a theory. Pirsig says
somewhere that the SOM is a "quality metaphysics" but such a SOM is
just as "bad" as the ordinary kind. It's only with the "M" removed and
given over to the MOQ that the S/O divide becomes the highest static
good - intellectual good.
The rest about DQ being pure- and SQ filtered experience and DQ
creating and SQ preserving, as well as neither being anything without
the other I agree with. Particularly the last because it shows that the
DQ/SQ is all there is, there is no pure anything. The MOQ is Quality
itself!
May I also highlight point # 11.

Truth is THE intellectual pattern IMO because Pirsig simply means
that science is constantly evolving new and better knowledge. It's only
"truth" is the notion of an existence independent of the subject, namely
the S/O distinction which is the 4th. level's value.
