It didn't lead to anything for me, but never mind.

Chistoffer. I regret that you have joined the "moon & finger" faction.
Look, back in SOM's heyday (before the MOQ) no one said that the
S/O division was just a metaphysical finger pointing to some deeper
reality? It was the way existence was split from eternity to eternity,
from bottom to top with, no neutral position from where one could look
upon it as a mere metaphysical finger.

And no Zen masters pointed out such a metaphysical context? Alan
Watts was my source before I met with Pirsig, but I couldn't find
anything about the western culture being a SOM one, and even if he
had done so it would not have meant much if he hadn't pointed to (!)
an alternative, ZAMM's revelation was just that: First its unmasking of
SOM and then the new Quality metaphysics where the S/O divide was
a subset.

Pirsig returning with LILA and now denouncing the MOQ as just
another finger - straight or crooked makes little difference - nullifies it
all, even the Quality=Reality postulate because it's an integrated part
of the MOQ. The notion of the MOQ as "open and dynamic" i.e. that
there may appear better fingers is nonsense (not your assertion
though) A better finger must entail a different split from the DQ/SQ one
and if so it's no longer a MOQ. Conclusion: Quality is Reality and this
reality is DQ/SQ. No finger lest we are into an eternal regress.

Bo
