Platt and all,
About the Russian orphanages, I'm going to fact
check myself. These were NOT experiments, they were
the real-time conditions of the russian orphanages at
the time. Also, it was 1/3 of the babies died from
not being touched, not being played with, and not
cuddled/rocked/human contact (aside of diapering and
usual doctoring), and the rest of them (2/3) were
mentality, emotionally, and/or physically retarded.
This was studied by Rene Spitz. He also studied and
compared mothers in prison (cold walls and such),
who's children were in the prison nursery, and these
children had frequent contact/love/hugging with their
mothers and these children were healthy. Also, Rene
noticed that hospitals in ca. 1930's that used
incubators alone wasted away the babies into holistic
retardations. Whereas the poor hospitals produced
healthy babies due to they couldn't afford incubators,
so, the nurses held the babies quite a bit. As for
the king of England experiments, I heard this long ago
in school, but I couldn't find any sites on the
internet, but this doesn't mean these experiments
didn't occur. Rene, though, changed much of how
babies are handled in many sectors of society since
his studies in the early 1900's.
