While a cyclone heads into the coast of Myanmar
today, the people of this region are in wait for the
upcoming vote on a new constitution that the
protestors of this country say vote "no" for it is a
sham by the military gov't, which took control of a
democratically lead country in the early 90's. The
military gov't controlled high fuel hike lead to the
September protests known as the Saffron Revolution.
This fuel hike by a heavy handed gov't has an overall
poor quality of life sprouting from forced labor to
high food prices in the region. Here's an article on
the forced labor which has lead to refugees fleeing
the country. (Myanmar, the largest rice exporter, is
also trying to form a Rice Cartel with other countries
- second link.)
