We can "run" faster than cheetahs (motorcylces), fly higher than birds 
(airplanes),
live underwater like fish for extended periods of time (submarines) and eat from
high branches of trees (ladders). We're special for all those things, but mostly
we're special compared to the animals because we free from the prison of the 
present
moment.

I don't know how that can be a "bad reading" when that's what Pirsig wrote.
Misguided by Pirsig, perhaps. But I doubt it.
