[Craig]
I don't think characterizing people's views as conservative/collectivist/
zenophobic/talk-radio, etc. is very enlightening.

[Arlo]
I was zenophobic once... til I figured out his paradoxes. Ba da bing.

Craig, you're a self-professed conservative, and we've disagreed on several
issues, but never once did I feel you resorted to the same slime tactics as
Platt. Two of best friends back home are die-hard conservatives. And we argue
extensively over ales on many points. And, lo and behold, I have liberal
friends whom I disagree with on points as well.

But let me be clear, the despicable rhetoric Platt employs is verbatim from
talk-radio... I listen to it, I can count the days until Limbaugh's distortion
du jour makes it from my radio to this forum. I hear the manipulative rhetoric
employed, and while all politics uses this rhetoric, talk-radio has it
perfected. From the drum-beating, to the demonizing, to the use of fear
phrases, to all the sad and pathetic things we should NOT see here, but do.

And like I said to Ron, there is simply no legitimate counter to their sleaze
but mockery, derision and assault. Ignoring it most of the time, perhaps, but
when certain depths of bile are reached, I have to call it out.

I've asked over and over for substance to support their claims. All I got was
bilingual phone books and street signs, future generations not speaking
English, and then a lapse into ridiculous inanity about immigration, veils and
then the same empty jargoneering about "evil multiculturalists in the big, bad,
collectivist academy destroying America", even to the humorous point once again
of watching Platt use Pirsig to attack Pirsig when one thing he says doesn't
fit into his notions of Glorious White American Cultural Supremeity.

And I am waiting to hear back if they agree or disagree with Franklin, because
his sentiments about German immigrants sounds verbatim to the sentiments
expressed by Ham and Platt about various dark-skinned peoples. Well, except
that Franklin lumps red-skinned peoples in with the world's "Superior Beings",
something Platt (at least) has a serious problem with, since he can't even
acknowledge the very contributions Pirsig describes.
