Hi all,

the rape example makes me think again; I had generally sided with Arlo's
point of view till that post came up - I still do, except that example
shows the discussion is far from resolved. I think Arlo's response that the
body is raped but not the mind is not is typical SOM thinking (don't take
that personally Arlo - we all do that most of the time anyway IMO).

Body and mind are inextricably connected, one does not exist without the
other. I've had situations where my mind rationalises that everything is OK
but my body tells me otherwise and becomes twitchy and ill. Likewise when
the body is ill, then mental functioning is reduced (except Hawking).

Avatars are simply a means of self-expression as is choosing a particular
set of clothes in the morning; they represent an aspect of self.

Our behaviour is based on what others think of us compounded by how that
makes us feel.

It's very mysterious.
