SA: I figured you understood this. I was pointing out the shift in attention
as a nation that has just happened. After 9/11, national security was huge.
Now after this economic crisis, even national security has to relate to
economics or else national security is not perceived as being important enough.
Our perception has been narrowed in a way too. Two hurricanes have come
close, and I don't even know if that one hit Maine or not. The news is
hovering around this economic crisis. Even hurricanes are on the back burner
and may not even reach the minds of many people in this culture as they
approach. I watched the hurricane come closer and closer to the U.S. and it
wasn't even on the news yet. This was the hurricane that came close or may
have hit Maine this past week. I watched it on this website. It's a good
animation of precipitation cloud cover of the world on one animation map.
After it hit Puerto Rico and went into the Atlantic closer
and closer to the U.S. for the first time it was one of the many headlines on
google and yahoo, didn't hear about it on TV cable news. My point. So much
importance in coverage is hovering around the economy that many big events are
being swept off to the side as we speak.
