proclaims her atheism and pretty much condemns religion of all sorts (she

Marx share this point). How does this square with those who blame
"secular
atheism" for the all the evils of modern history?
In "For the New Intellectual", Rand blames evil on two types of people:
the
"Witch Doctor" who uses faith rather than reason & "Attila" who uses force
rather than reason. For her Marx falls in the latter category.

In terms of the MOQ what Marx and Engels did was to create a social pattern
to harbour their intellectual values.
With that, as with everything, there is always the danger that the social
pattern continues to work even when the intellectual values and ideas
disappear. Mindless drones can do a lot of harm. That's why we need to
enlighten them :P
