I did not give an example of altruism; the book does talk about the apparent
taking of the altruism out of altruism.
Real altruistic behaviour is not consciously selfish - but emotional. The
point of the book - which I am still not finished - is that although the
genes are selfish and life is about the survival of the fittest,
nevertheless co-operation and collaboration (types of altruistic behaviour)
prove to be the best survival policies.

Computer simulations of prisoner's dilemma showed that overall the
cooperative policy is most successful - according to the book.
