[Platt]
The sun rising and setting, the seasons changing, plants growing and dying, animals fighting, fleeing. feeding and f ---ing are all examples of static patterns.

No. What we see as "static patterns" are (in these examples) the amalgamation of inorganically and biologically mediated responses to Dynamic Quality.

A "static pattern" is not a "fixed thing", it appears as such only from a particular focal view. "The sun rising and setting" appears to be a static pattern from a view that considers human time in days and weeks, while a much larger macro-eon view would see this as a dynamic-evolutionary processes in the inorganically evolving firmament of the cosmos.

I also think you should tell you wife the next time you "f---" that it is not a response to "betterness" or Dynamic Quality, but doing it is a "static pattern". I'm sure she'll appreciate knowing that. (Or is it a response to DQ when humans "f---" but not when animals do it?) Let me give you the right answer. "F---ing" your wife is a biologically-mediated response to Dynamic Quality (just as pondering metaphysics is an intellectually-mediated response to Dynamic Quality, and painting is (to extrapolate from Pirsig) an aesthetically-mediated (code of art) response to Dynamic Quality). It is your biology (and hers, hopefully) responding to a "betterness", a value, and not a "static pattern" at all.
