Hi Paco,

Platt:
What are the "tool sets" of intellect besides science and reason?

I add FAITH. Faith [of many levels of quality] comes in when reason and science cannot capture absolute truth. It allows intellect to go, in stillness,  beyond reason and science, to go beyond formal logicand  vison/network-logic to enter transpersonal (mystical, if you will) states, to enter DQ that creates buddha, sangha, and dharma..

As I see the word faith used, it is an intellectual pattern that includes permission to believe things and claim unwarranted certainty about things that don't have intellectual quality. It is the idea that it is even a virtue to believe things that don't have intellectual quality and be stubbornly static about it. Pirsig takes the pragmatic perspective on truth, it is that which is good by way of belief. Therefore, faith amounts to believing things that aren't good to believe. In short, in the MOQ, faith is immoral.

Regards,
Steve
