Pirsig uses the term "culture" over 100 times in Lila and defines it in  
Lila's Child, Note 47: "Culture should be defined as social patterns plus 
intellectual patterns." In other words. "culture" embraces the social and 
intellectual moral levels.

Right. Further, intellect worships its own gods -- Reason, Observation, 
Experiment, Measurement and Peer Review. Anyone who questions this 
religion is banished to intellect's version of Outer Mongolia, namely, 
Stupid City. Fortunately, there's a higher realm, the realm of Art where 
intellect's gods are impotent and Beauty reigns. Anyone who has had the 
good fortune of seeing Bo's paintings knows whereof I speak.
