I found this post interesting, as well as the subsequent posts and the website provided by Marsha. I too am trained in the sciences and the diligent methods of questioning assumptions through testing. I'm not sure what concept of science Platt is referring to, and it may be that presented by the mainstream media. I would like to present some current science as it relates to philosophy and MoQ. The theory of evolution is continually being challenged by atheist scientist, through experimental means, many of these successfully. Unfortunately much of society as we know it now is under the illusion that evolution is a fact. It is an enticing view of reality because it helps justify behavior. Indeed philosophies, such as MoQ, readily use evolution as part of their thesis. Any contrary evidence-based discourse is relegated to the fringe, in the same way MoQ is. The big bang theory is under constant challenge. In fact, the empirical data, as provided by astronomy and cosmology, is much more consistent with a static universe in which there was no beginning. Quantum theories are consistent with many aspects of Monism or Tao. In fact quantum physics supports the notion that reality is created through observation, and doesn't exist as it is, until observed. Many quantum physicists incorporate mystical notions into their theories which are supported by math. There are many successful endeavors into concepts such as "synchronicity" and parapsychology which use scientific means to understand such phenomenon. There is a school of physics which is devoted to the understanding of consciousness, outside of its biological aspects. Consciousness in these studies is considered something which cannot be measured. What can be measured is the effect of consciousness on the measurable reality we experience. From that certain scientific deductions can be postulated. Science is a useful reality which can be used on a day to day basis. I believe MoQ can be used in the same way. But keep in mind that all of it is simply a convention for communication and interaction. In many ways trying to get outside of these conventions, by using the conventions, is like a finger trying to point at itself, or the eyes trying to see themselves (without mirrors, of course) to paraphrase the great communicator Alan Watts. Hope this helps.
