Hi Andre,

I prefer Pirsig's view of DQ as a force for good, i.e.,openness and
freedom.

"When inorganic patterns of reality create life the Metaphysics of Quality
postulates that they've done so because it's "better" and that this
definition of "betterness"-- this beginning response to Dynamic Quality --
is an elementary unit of ethics upon which all right and wrong can be
based." (Lila, 12)

DQ is sometimes confused with biological quality.

"When biological quality and Dynamic Quality are confused the result isn't
an increase in Dynamic Quality. It's an extremely destructive form of
degeneracy of the sort seen in the Manson murders, the Jonestown madness.
and the increase in crime and drug addiction throughout the country."
(Lila, 24)

Platt
