Arlo:
Of course, its ridiculous to propose that subatomic particles had any
"intent" or "plan" to make a chemistry professor. "Chemistry
professors" are the unintentional consequences of a host-load of
collective activity among a variety of patterns; beginning with
inorganic patterns and stretching to intellectual patterns. But
"intent" is no where in this mix. Its an absurd and indefensible claim to
make.

Andre:
Hi Arlo, I agree that there is no 'intent' or 'plan' at the quantum level
because, as you hint, this pre-supposes things that are not to be
pre-supposed but, and this is just a thought (streching things a bit) what
Pirsig did do with this example is implanting some sort of purpose within
the MoQ's evolutionary framework.a purpose which, given the context , makes
'sense' of the existence and profession of the chemistry professor, and
inviting us (if you like) to find our own purpose/ place within this
evolutionary MoQ framework. Purpose within the context of finding your own
dharma.
Starting in your heart and head and then your hands, and then work outward
from there. (ZMM,p291).
(Needles to say, this has nothing to do with any form of pre-destination,
intention or plan).

Just a thought.
