To those involved,

So much vitriol under the name of Joseph.  Struck a nerve have we?

I haven't heard this much non-PC stuff in a long time, I love it.  No more
glossy sweet exterior covering a seething interior.  The shell has got to
crack at some time.

I missed out on the back and forth earlier, just trying to make a living.

I suppose a definition of PC is in order, but I think you guys can get my
drift.  There is nothing wrong with common decency and respect.  It is
when it gets blown up into a demonstration of who cares more, that I
see selfish self righteousness appear.

I have very personal experience with the disabled (PC), and am heavily involved
in the autism community.  Believe me, the attitude has not changed
even though there are claims to the contrary.  I am constantly at
battle with the school district.  The classrooms provided for disabled
children are substandard.  Segregation is alive and well.

When I state that PC has actually diminished our respect for others, what I
mean is that respect has been replaced by textbook PC.    People are looking
to the rules of respect rather than to respect itself.  Not walking the talk.
All sides are guilty.  People on the right, on the left, on the top, on the
bottom.  I lived in Hawaii for a number of years, and felt
extreme racism towards me, being a white Haole.  It wasn't from the
names I was called, so much as the underlying treatment.  But I gained
respect, not by whining about things, but by working at it.

We live in a society where words have replaced action.  Where the color
of your skin is of higher value than the ability you have.  It is the extreme
nature of PC which I find ugly.  Rhetoric replacing principles.

One can argue using extreme absurd examples, and no, just because I
think PC has gone too far does not mean that I am going to go kill some
wetbacks (PC explanation: expletive intended for effect).  It is such a joke
when I here people's personal and selfish opinions masked behind
a PC mask.  It's like buying shirts from the sweatshops in the Philippines,
and repenting by giving a dollar to a beggar.

Everybody trying to dominate is making the PC rules, and then using them
in non PC ways.  There are so many examples of this, its all just a manipulative
illusion.  Somebody brought up the ACLU, what a group of slimy, reptilian
ambulance chasers.

Be careful that you don't hurt somebody's feelings, if you don't act in a PC
manner, they might cry, or sue you.   PC is used by greedy people to make
money through law suits.  What a scam!

If you argue that we are more respectful of each other now, than we were
50 years ago,  I would say, open your eyes.  If we are more respectful,
it's only because we are a little richer and more secluded behind our
computers.

So buck up, stop whining, and get a life!

How so? Are mentally-handicapped children treated worse, or with resentment,
because we no longer call them "retards"?

[Willblake]
I believe he was using the non-PC attitude of anti-Christianity as an example
of where those PC folk talk out of both sides of their mouths.

[Arlo]
Sure, just as those who call anyone who speaks against anything America does
traitors and enemies of liberty, that's where folk like Platt succomb to
talking out of both sides of his mouth.

[Willblake]
It' has just created a bunch of whining individuals...

[Arlo]
Who's whining? The kids who are no longer called "retards", or the people who
wish they still could call them that?

[Willblake]
How can the manipulation of others involve respect?

[Arlo]
Do you respect mentally-challenged kids any less since you have "manipulated"
or forced into not calling them "retards"?

[Willblake]
The tool is used by both sides to a point which drives me nuts...

[Arlo]
At least you see it is wielded by both sides. The way I see it is that social
beings have a certain degree of civility and safety they should expect in the
social realm. I wouldn't want to be harassed as a "cracker", nor would I
imagine a parent wants their mentally-challenged kid referred to a "retard"
when they are out at a restaurant. I bet a lot of blacks are pretty happy they
don't hear "nigger" yelled at them when they are walking down the street too.
And if those "manipulations" rifle the ilk of small-minded jerks who feel it is
their god-given "right" to yell "nigger" or "retard" and harass those
less-superior than themselves, well I personally have no sympathy for that.

Then there is the comic side, such as renaming garbagemen "sanitation
engineers". I skip by this because its irrelevant. People can be called what
they want to be called. Its no skin of my back to say "sanitation engineer".

There is also the insidious political uses like "War on Terror" or "Patriot
Act" of which Orwell would also be quite proud.
