[Platt]
... along with sanctioning such biological values as
anything-goes-marriages, legalized drugs and public nudity.
[Arlo]
Yeah, people are too stupid and need you to control their behavior,
Platt. Legalized drugs? You mean like cigarettes, alcohol and the
shelves of pharmaceuticals available at my local Wal-Mart? Public
nudity? Right, women's bodies are evil and dirty (and the property of
men) and they need you to protect them so they won't be raped if they
reveal too much skin. Marriage? Of course, freedom only means freedom
to be like Platt, how silly of me to have forgotten that.
Far be it from me to expect a mature society to base its laws on
reason and not demogoguery and fear rhetoric. Far be it from me to
expect a civil society to base its "nudity" laws on medical or valid
social concerns demonstrated through reason rather than some
anti-intellectual prudery. Far be it from me to expect a civil people
to realize that consenting adults should be free to define their own
unions, unless a direct and valid concern can be shown as to how such
unions would destroy society, rather than on the sophomoric rhetoric
of talk-radio. Far be it from me to think that Pirsig's own
peyote-realized metaphysics should open the eyes of a civil society
to rethink it unintellectual, and corporate sponsored, hypocrisy
regarding peyote, marijuana and other "drugs".
Yeah, I know that's all waaaaay to much to ask, its so much easier to
just say "drugs are bad, mmkay? gays are bad, mmkay? boobs are bad, mmkay?"
[John]
Is "sanctioning" the logical equivalent to "refusing to
coerce"? Cuz if it is, I think you and NAP just collided.
[Arlo]
John, John, John. It's only "coercion" when the "left" does it. When
the right does it, its moral. You may have missed the part where
"coercion" is actually defined as being "leftist", therefore by
definition, coercion from the right simply can not exist. So we use
some newspeak and call it "sanctioning" and pat our moral selves on
the back for how righteous we are.
