Thus the right sociopolitical system depends upon the region you come from.

Pragmatism rooted in the geo-socio-historical reality of where you are, driven by Quality. Makes sense to me.

The United States of America, where I live, would be better served if it broke up into autonomous regions with a common defense pact, just like the USSR did; allowing for more dynamic response at the local level to the local needs. Not into 50 different states, but into bioregions...

I'd favor this. I think, if nothing else, the vitrioic division in this country can only be released by some sort of true division. Even a split into two areas (upper midwest, northeast and the "blue" states comprosing one, the red states another, and let each do what it wants to do. Although I am sure the rhetoric would not stop, and woes in one would simply be blamed on the Great Evil emanating from the other. My only suggestion would be to let the Blue Nation have the Great Parks, since, you know, where all commie-environmentalists anyways. Along the way we should spin off the Native American lands into their own country, after all, we do want them to have the freedom of autonomy and self-governance, right?

By the way, I noticed that the "bioregionalism" you mentioned is tied to the Green Party, and to sustainability, local foods and ecology. On a busy and depressing Tuesday, this brought a cheer to my heart. I have long been an advocate of sustainable farming and local/organic foods. We've supported a local CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) Farm for years. While everyone these days has their "hot button" issue, mine has always been rooted in conservationalism and a sound, ecological management of our public lands.
