I agree with your point that women often put themselves in the position of favoring "emotionally retarded men." First, a caveat to what you said: I simply cannot accept that women are somehow more spiritually pure than men. I think women are *socialized* to uphold certain aspects of culturally constructed femininity, which includes being gentle, passive, kind, helpful, and so on.
However, the societally constructed stereotype of woman is not the true heart of woman. A woman is just as capable of having darkness in her heart or emotional detachment, same as any man. Abuse by a woman is rare, but those who have experienced it can tell you that a female sociopath is no different than a male one. I also doubt whether there is a true gender difference in the numbers of men and women who manifest this disorder. I simply think sociopathy is revealed in men more than it is in women because sociopathic traits are encouraged in men and discouraged in women, and men simply have more physical freedom to carry out violent acts, for they are the strongest. Back to the topic of the mate choices of women: we are socialized to accept that men are the emotionally stunted ones (and being emotionally stunted is not far from emotional death, so it is somewhere on the spectrum of sociopathic tendencies), the unthinkingly violent ones, the ones who should show anger before they show pain. Numerous stories show it as the woman's role to accept the shortcomings of her mate, because there aren't any truly good men, and she has to settle. Even if these stories are meant to show the humorousness of this situation, it seems to be the case that the more something is talked about, the more it occurs in reality. Women accept this as their plight, even if they think it is wrong. What can be done about it? The most direct solution is to change how men and women are socialized.
