Andre. Mark. 23 Sep:
Mark to Marsha: > > The word is the word. ?All is a representational pattern in our brains. > > ?The thing is our representation of it. Whether it be a word or a song > > or a mountain. The mind is a mirror. ?It reflects an image. Mark obviously believes that he conveys some profound insight by the representational theory of reality (Kant's "things for us/things in themselves"). Not knowing or ignoring that is is SOM itself! .... and WHAT THE MOQ REJECTS! Andre: > Hi Mark, Marsha and All: Not sure if this is relevant to the discussion > but here it is: '...the Greek not only liked his own creations to be > symmetrical, or patterned; he also believed that the universe at large > must be symmetrical. This was naturel. In the works of Man, Reason and > Perfection assume a symmetrical form; Man is part of Nature; therefore > Nature too, being ex hypothesi based on Reason, will be symmetrical. > Footnote: the Greek for Reason, in the present tense, is 'logos', from > which the adjective 'logical'. 'Logos' is usually mistranslated 'word': > it is rather 'speech', or, the idea which is conveyed by speech.'In the > beginning was the 'Word' really means 'In the beginning was the > Conception'. (Kitto, THe Greeks, p 187). These are the SOM Greeks (not the AretĂȘ ones) who had arrived at the notion of an independent "nature" governed by unchangeable laws (that man's reason could fathom) not by the whims of gods who were prone to emotions i.e. the same emotions as humans and could be persuaded by pleading.. One understands the enormous metaphysical shift that took place here from the "non-representational" (Social) reality to the S/O (intellectual) reality that - after millenniums - arrived at its "final form", namely the notion of everything existing as a subjective mirror in our brains. The paradoxical implications of this was what spurred young Phaedrus on to his Quality idea.
