Bodvar to Ron: "Symbols/what is symbolized" along with "abstract/concrete" are SOM offshoots. The "concrete" that the "abstract" refers to may be an "abstract" in itself, in the same sense that a symbol may symbolize another symbol, but that does not shake the SOM foundations. Therefore is Pirsig's new definition of intellect (manipulation of symbols that have no corresponding experience) futile. Intellect is the "symbol/what is symbolized" distinction!!!!
Andre: Holy shit Bodvar! something just dawned on me as I was sitting in my cold miserability of a newyearseve...with a beer: the 'concrete' to which the 'abstract' refers, or the 'symbol' to which 'what is symbolized' refers is simply the difference in in/ organic PoV's with their ( albeit related) social/intellectual PoV's in the sense, for ex. that a chair is an inorganic PoV, but a chair can be a throne when placed in a social context and thus become a social PoV...as a 'president is from a 'normal' (haha) human being. In other words, the distinction referred to (and maintained) is upheld within a SOM dominated world. They are static patterns of value, together with their tensions, within the MoQ. If there are differences between the two, these are differences that have expressed themselves through differing evolutionary levels. The not drunk yet Andre. ( the beer is piss weak here!)
