Hi Mary, Thank you for this. Sometimes, no most times by wanting to find out what is happening in China I have to go to overseas news broadcasts. Case in point: only a week and a half ago a great spillage of diesel in the Yangtse River (our catchment area for drinking water) was reported in the Dutch media and the BBC. Being concerned, I relayed this to HO in Beijing. They didn't know anything!
I gave them a few more details. HO contacted the local authorities regarding news about this. The denied!!! an 'incident having taken place. Finally I was able to relay to HO the full BBC story. They finally contacted personally, local authorities here and there and got some more information...yes, there had been an incident but it is under control etc etc. Well, some of this happens in the West as well I suppose, but at least it is splattered all over the media. Here in China one never fully knows Mary. Which is very frustrating and at the same time exciting. You simply surrender to whatever happens that 'happens'. Thank you.
