Not much time this morning but I do want to point out that "plate tectonics" don't obviate the hand of God, A pantheist would argue that plate tectonics ARE the hand of God.

Of course. But the fallacy is still apparent in that "plate tectonics" gives us the ability to predict and ameliorate the effects of geological forces. This would leave the theist with no recourse but to say that "man" has the ability to guide, or correct, the "hand of god". Of course to THIS you could bed Platt's prostitute and claim that God is manipulating man into discovering and acting upon "plate tectonics", but that gets you right back into his bizarro super-marionation world, certainly not a world I'd want to be. In other words, the "back up" is only momentarily satisfying, and even though only if you don't really think about it at all.
