... and yes, DMB, I find James alternative lacking and incomplete.
dmb says:
Why? I mean, could you be more specific?

... And by the way, for DMB, and Ant (whom I know from way back), and Matt, and
Steve's benefit, there are those of us who have a great deal of formal
education (Engineering in my case) who do not have an academic level knowledge
of philosophy, so you can save the supercilious attitude for those who failed
to finish high school.
dmb says:
Yea but I can disagree without being supercilious, right? And maybe it's a
moral failing on my part, but when people say dumb things I think it's okay to
call a spade a spade. Conversation helps keep us honest that way, you know? I'm
just talking in general here, I don't think you said anything that merits a
haughty scolding or whatever and I assume you can be persuaded by reason.
But I have to say that your dismissal of James is hard to understand. Pirsig
equates his MOQ with James's thought, especially on the issue of replacing
subject-object metaphysics with a Quality metaphysics. Since they are identical
in this respect, I don't see how it can make any sense to accept one and reject
the other.
