Hi John

JB has resigned from the list as he stated, along with the usual invective expected from a sulky prima donna when asked to play nicely, along the lines of anti freedom of speech, mean spiritedness etc. which isn't the case. I can't say I'm that bothered about his disappearance and I did give him a chance to alter the way he views the purpose of this list, which is to discuss the MoQ and Pirsigs work in general. Let me make it quite clear that I have no problem at all with your views on theism, intelligence, your fascination with Joyce or whatever it is that you want to discuss because I believe that underlying this is an interest in Pirsigs work. Similarly, other members are, as always, free to join in with their views and different perspectives and discuss their current interests in relation to the MoQ and Pirsig. I like variety and don't want the list to get bogged down with a single view of how we talk and relate our positions to one another, the MoQ and to Pirsig. Platt has his way, Bo has his, Marsha has hers, Mary hers, Dave, Steve, Ian, Arlo, Andre, Adrie etc. etc. have theirs. Even Ham, with his view of how the MoQ relates to his essentialism is welcome here because he conducts himself well, makes interesting points, gives others a chance to disagree and doesn't treat others as if they were simple minded fools - well not most of the time or any more than anyone else. :) I may not agree with Ham or you, Bo, Platt, Marsha, Mary or anyone else on the list but I don't tell you what you may or may not say or think or how to express yourselves. But when some arrogant gobshite turns up on the list and effectively tries to tell me that my friends are a bunch of cultish (yes I did spell that correctly) fuckwits discussing the unoriginal, naive and childish ramblings of a rank amateur philosopher that gets right up my nose. For my money, the only cult (incorrect spelling) around here was JB. He was not going to achieve his desire to dominate the list with a position that has nothing to do with the MoQ and was completely at odds with just about everything that Pirsigs work promotes. I think he realised this and decided that remaining would be a waste of his time and ours. We got the usual old hypocritical crap about freedom etc. as if he'd accept the same in a similar position.

As you said John, metaphysics ain't for sissies!

Ok Adrie.

And horse.

And all.

I wanna weigh in on the topic myself. I promised JB I wouldn't make any
personal comments about him or analyze him for he found that offensive. So
I've tried to keep my, um, "mouth" shut.

But there's probably more I should say along these lines, because after all,
if anybody has been in defense of theism, I have, so far. Getting a fellow
god-thinking type person has a lot of attraction to me.

But.... I thought Horse's admonition was perfect, to the point and
apropos.

At the same time, i hope JB takes his lumps and sticks it out. If not, oh
well. Metaphysics ain't for sissies.

I will say one thing in his defense. He thought Dan Glover was RMP in
disguise. I appreciated that. If there's a better rhetorician, writer or
person that this list, or this society for that matter, has offered up than
Dan, I've yet to meet the person. Seeing Dan's quality, right off the bat
like that, seems a sign of good sense at least and if he (JB) does decide to
straighten up and stick around I'm willing to give him another chance.

Openess to dynamic change is a better indicator than static excellence.

'nuff said.

It is the introduction of the crap-level towards the set of mr Pirsig.

been reading this fundamentalist-issue emerging.
this is my opinion, fundamentalists and die-hards are not the same ,
