Please, if you just would clarify this to me, I see that Horse, Andre and
Arlo approved of this as some revelation, but I think they are just too
eager to debunk me to see that they debunk Pirsig in the same breath.

What you said in the quote above puts you squarely into the camp of Bin
Laden, Pat Robertson and Rush Limbaugh. The belief that there is a "the
one
and true... fill in the blank," is the mark of the fundamentalist, the
extremist, the "true believer". This is a way of thinking, a "how" people
think mentioned a while back. When you think like this, in terms of the
"one" and the "true', whatever you have to say is going to sound creepy.
