Hey folks, just got back from dropping a daughter off at Healdsburg and doing the whole 4th of July stuff. Lotsa driving with time to think. I like that.
Main thing on my mind was Bo's troubles here, and how to fix 'em. Even as each of us is a complex system of patterns and relationships, so too is this discuss an entity of systems, patterns and relationships. As Royce says, every individual is a community and every community is an individual entity bigger than the sum of its parts. So I wanna consider our community here, and try and wrestle a solution to the conflict between Bo and Horse. I suggested a "time out" and I still think that's a good idea for Bo, but I need to make it a little more understood and grown-up sounding than the kindergarden banter we throw back and forth. In ancient monastaries, brothers would take a vow of silence, for a certain period. Sometimes at their own instigation, and sometimes at the suggestion of others in the priesthood, or even the head abbot. I'd like Bo to consider my suggestion of a time-out in that regard - a monastic vow of silence for a period, rather than an exclusion or a shunning. There are others who take his view, let them defend it for a while and Bo observe "quietly" from the sidelines and resisting the impulse to make his sol point for a while. >From my perspective on Bo's stance, its become rigid and inflexible, he's got a bad case of "static cling" and he really needs a more dynamic handle on his own thoughts. A way of looking and presenting that isn't mired in his history and persistent efforts. I think Horse's frustration stems from wanting to help Bo overcome this stuckness, and is understandable in that regard, but imo, a banishment is too harsh and serves neither the community nor Bo's best interest in the long term. Everybody can use a little vacation, now and then. A-muse-ment is bad, but re-creation is good.
