The problem is Marsha if I just let any old crap in accompanied by every fruitcake on the planet then the overall quality of the forum goes down or is diluted to the point where there is little quality to be had. I'm not saying I'm perfect by any stretch of the imagination but if I don't keep some control over what appears and who provides it then there's little point in having this forum. The MAIN subject of this forum is the Metaphysics of Quality (moq_discuss!) and not just every possible subject on the planet - the forum needs to try and stick as closely as possible to discussing the ideas and philosophy as presented by Robert Pirsig in his books. We have related contributions from other books (Lila's Child etc.) and other philosophers (James, Dewey etc.) which are also relevant to the overall discussion. If we don't have boundaries then we'll end up discussing everything but the MoQ. If the idea that anyone should be able to say anything is given free rein then why not let this be a place to discuss al-Qaeda's plans or why not let the paedophile's in to discuss their latest conquests and distribute their pornography. Should I limit their freedom of speech and if so what justification would I have according to the folk on here who carp on about how dictatorial, repressive and unfair I am. As I've said before, I've tried being reasonable and certain folk took this as me being weak and thought they could do anything they feel like and say whatever shite comes into their heads. The internet is a big place and there are plenty of other places to discuss whatever people want to discuss - MD is reserved for discussing the MoQ, not government conspiracies or the latest hair-do's or whatever. It's also quite easy for any member of this forum to start their own mailing list instead of leeching onto this one. As for SA, Bradford, Squonk etc. maybe they should have started their own mailing lists to discuss what they want to discuss and put up with the abuse their members give them. Then after12 years or so maybe they'd also get pissed off with the abuse and being ignored. This is what has happened here and after many years I've had enough. So now I'll do whatever I need to do to ensure that I'm not ignored when I make what I feel is a reasonable request and I won't put up with any more abuse or criticism for trying to do what I set out to do when I originally had the mailing lists set up. I will always try to be fair but if some of my decisions aren't liked then that's too bad. I don't care if this doesn't make me popular but that's not why I started doing this nor why I continue, and will continue, to do it to the way I wish to do it.
My house, my rules! Remember?

Greetings Horse,

I thought the MAIN subject of this forum was Quality? I can imagine all
subjects can be fit into the MoQ perspective, after all the MoQ is about
Reality = Quality. The Zuni was not a complacent academic, but he offered
great value to the group, in spite of the group rejections. When one is
harassed by individual or group authority in an abusive way, one might become
defensive, and anger may follow which is usually not a pretty response, but
quite normal. I bet many thought that Zuni witch was a trouble-maker and one
not keeping to the purposes of the tribe, rather than a brujo who was adding
something dynamic. I bet many thought Phaedrus was a trouble-maker and not
keeping to the purpose of the community. I missed the ending of the SA affair,
but when I reread the posts, I thought he had been backed into a defensive
corner and understandably lost his cool. To me he was driven to the edge.
Then Lord and Flies did him in. That is my interpretation. He could have
been handled better. He might have had something of high-value to offer; now
we'll never know.

One is too hard, one is too soft...

Horse, this post is not about your authority, it's about Quality.

If his arguments were well presented, he wasn't abusive, stuck to the rules

maybe treated a bit warily. A bit like Ham has been. I certainly wouldn't
remove him for merely having a different point of view.
If however he was abusive and/or threatening, refused to talk about the main
subject of the forum, twisted everything around to suit his own purposes and
generally behaved like a twat then I'd probably remove him.
Being on the edge is fine - being so far off the edge that you can't climb back
is another matter.

Greetings,

I wonder. If this were a list discussing SOM, and someone joined saying that
the world was made of Value and the world had given him shock treatments to
prevent him for saying it, you'd probably label him as one of the tin-foil hat
variety and harass him off the list. Dose anybody get that the dynamic ideas
come from the edges, from the uncomfortable places? I'm leaving tomorrow
morning for a few days at Cape Cod. Maybe you can discuss how many pimples
from James's butt will fit on a pin. Oh yea, what about the latching thingy?
Not to worry, I can assure you some of you are soooo static, it won't be an
issue.

My heart opens at the thought of all of you,

Greetings,

Seems to me Horse's ruling was for offlist emails to remain offlist. The rest
of this is other griping is about some men being uncomfortable with the
'personal' and with some men not being comfortable their feelings. Please, I
did say some men, not all men. What a riot! This might become a list
discussing a MoQ without a heart, a macho metaphysics. Love it! Ooops. Was
'Love' a bad word?

I'll take Horse's ruling as stated, and will ignore the nonsense.

I love you all,

Marsha
