Ham quoted from a promotion sheet about an upcoming talk by Caryl Johnston at
the Chestnut Hill Library:
"Join Caryl Johnston and the Philadelphia Forum as we take up Robert Pirsig's
challenge to develop a spiritualized rationality. Why has this invitation
found few champions in the United States today? Might it be that our social
disagreements benefit some at the expense of the many? Let's ask some hard
questions as we search for Quality together!"
Ham asked:
...Is this young lady an "official spokesperson" for the MoQ, or does she have
her own agenda? ("Social disagreements benefiting some at the expense of
others" sounds suspiciously Marxist to me.)
dmb says:
I think your suspicious attitude is pretty weird, Ham. Official spokeperson?
Her own agenda? Sounds suspiciously Marxist? It's just a talk at the library,
for Pete's sake. And it seems like you totally missed the point of the quote. I
think it says that Pirsig has offered a way to reconcile the clash between
science and religion and yet the clash continues. The question is asked if this
continued dispute might be perpetuated intentionally to serve somebody's
interests. Divide and conquer, etc..
My impression is that she quite meek, mild and fairly conservative. I expect
that you'll like her quite a bit, actually.
