We don't normally say (in American English, anyway), for example, 
"Understanding triumphs cooperation".
***British English speakers should correct me if I'm wrong.***
We would say "Understanding triumphs OVER cooperation" or (possibly) 
"Understanding TRUMPS cooperation."
