Hi Mark, The aggregates are the different pieces of experience. One interesting idea to start is that Buddhism considers there is a sixth sense: the mind. And just as the five physical sense organs have their corresponding material objects, the mind has for its object ideas, or dharmas. The aggregates are interconnected and related to dependent origination. All these aggregates have a unique, non-western explanation. For instance, the aggregate of feeling, or sensation, is of three kinds – pleasant, unpleasant, and indifferent. And volitional activities, or mental formations, are described as a conditioned response to the object of experience and are said to have a static value and a dynamic value. It's all very detailed and interesting, but I know just a little.
