Marsha:
Are there still areas of inquiry and discovery, or should one blindly swallow
dmb's argument of "a volume of material", "the disease" and "the cure";
therefore he is right?  Ian asked a question that has not been properly
addressed.

[Ron]
There are still areas of "discovery" it just means certain people have a more
difficult time Posing as philosophers here on the discuss.
DmB's explanation is better than yours. He makes a convincing case and I see
you doing more to help his case than to tear it down.
At some point you are going to have to explain your reasons for your beliefs
rather than posting a few quotes out of context.
You are going to have to make a clear coherent case as to why and how your
interpretation is better than Daves. It should
show how your beliefs include the most of Pirsigs ideas into a coherent
consistant system of thought. Until you do that, all the
rhetorical painting of a rigid tyrant in the world is not going to help your
cause.

Dave is making a sound case, you are not. Refusing to do so on "dynamic"
grounds is a tactic that can not work on an
e-mail forum. Using esoteria runs counter the whole enterprise of greater
meaning, I can groove on esoteric hippie talk,
it can give the feeling of greater meaning on a deeper level, its can be a hip
way to rhetorically transfer meaning in such
a way as to convince and connect to a specific type of temperment.
Unfortunately philosophic scientific explanation,
even those expressions that hold value as central in their explanations, are
best expressed via clear coherent terms everyone
can understand.

Until then, all you are ever going to be viewed as here is a vengeful troll
that is constantly trying to poop in the punch bowl.

The idea is to persuade.
