For the most part I've had no problem with your comments and your posts in general
have
been enjoyable and educational - although sometimes bordering on aggressive w.r.t.
Chris
L. But this is a good example of what I mean. Even though you were coming on mildly
aggressively (much more so than anything you wrote at Struan) at no time did Chris
respond
as Struan would have done (and in fact did) but remained reasonable and continued the
discourse in a rational manner - it was also very interesting which meant that I and
probably
lots of others didn't just switch off think that just another ill-mannered rant was
forthcoming.

Perhaps if it had been a one-off but that is not the case and, as I said in my post, I
expect
better of Struan considering that he is both a teacher and a philosopher by
profession. In fact
at times in the past I have thought that his behaviour has bordered on intellectual
bullying.

I hope so. Sometimes tempers do fray, this is understandable and in general is ignored
but
when it starts to become the norm we are all at risk of losing a worthwhile and
precious
resource - a sense of community and the pleasure it can bring.

I don't want to damage the dynamic element of this forum but I think in the long run
it is
aggression and confrontation that that cause most damage. I have just read 3WD's reply
to
Struan which is great - "robust disagreement" between two parties is one thing but I
feel that
Struan has overstepped the mark on several occasions and it is only the respect I have
had
for him in the past that held me back from saying anything. He's not under any
obligation to
join in the discussion on the MD forum (and like Dave I sometimes wonder why he does,
given his general opinion of Pisig and the MoQ) but if he does then he should abide by
the
rules as do the vast majority of members - there aren't that many, they aren't
draconian and
where members stretch them at times it's generally ignored.
