what you're saying makes a lot of sense.  when i thought of pirsig's idea of 
a 'moral execution,' i thought that he meant the only way it would be 
possible would be to execute a person who was likely to escape from prison 
and commit more crimes.  i think stephen was on to something regarding this 
matter in his earlier post:

but the system that produced the responses is intact and as time has shown
will reproduce another similar individual-the problem hasn't been fixed and
more people will get hurt as a result (RMP talks about the thought system
that produces all the facories etc, if it isn't destroyed in a
revolution,the same thought patterns will reproduce the
factories,hierarchies etc in ZAMM) 

but i wasnt too sure on what he meant, possibly because im not the sharpest 
pencil in the box.
