Hurrah, we got there - "Causation".
That non-trivial issue, over-simplified by too many people - scientists as
well as politicians.

I do not think scientists oversimplify causation at all. In fact when it
comes to the idea of correlation not being equal to causation, there is no
fussier bunch than scientists. They tend to nit pick this to death. It is
the source of a great many scientific disputes in all areas of science.
Oversimplification of these kinds of arguments does indeed lead to much
misunderstanding and misrepresentation.
