At last you bring some creative people into the picture, not simply
electromagnetic radiation which to the caveman meant nothing.

Cave men, after emerging from pond scum or popping through their dimensional
wormholes, transmitted vocally or by banging drums or sending up smoke
signals. They received through their eyes and ears. It still works like that
only it's slightly more complicated and you sometimes have to pay for the
privilege.
