I think we need to maintain some balance - as you say yourself - critics have their uses when there is just so much to experience and limited time to do it. Then there is an element of critiquing the critics - so that we find the critics and channels we trust. It's a matter of delegation and efficiency, but it's all built on trust. When it gets to look like dictating our opinions we've gone too far - I know, I often sound like that myself ;-) Being opinionated, having strong opinions about everything is one thing, and in a free-ranging discussion board it is easy to express them without inhibitions. Like everything in life, a good critic knows what he likes, but knows it's his job to communicate, not to impose constraints on user choice. Strong opinions, lightly held - is the expression I use. (Can't remember where I got it from) The more power you have the more you need to understand that the point of it is not to use it. Same goes for critics as for presidents of world powers. I call that the Groucho effect - knowing that the club that will have you as a member is the one you shouldn't join.
