Yeah, but once you get over the sheer horror; it's pretty cool, really.

You said it! I was thinking of the Hawkings Idea you mentioned before,
of the bubbles in
Beer and the idea of an eternal "pachinco" effect...as you say I'm both
awe struck and
Horrorfied...time to buy some beer and do alittle study..thanks for
indulging my curiosity

All fields of human endeavor have great expanses of established "facts" and
at their edges, the undiscovered territory. In high school and intro courses
we learn what as been established. In advanced studies we travel into the
undiscovered country. One of the problems of looking directly into the
undiscovered country and speculating on things like quantum mechanics or
multiworlds of fizzy universes is that these are topics ripe for speculation
and they are pretty far off the beaten path.

One of the things that attracts me to the whole idea of uncertainty, chaos
and complexity is that they are not that far into the undiscovered country
and all of us already have a rich vocabulary and experience to apply to
them.

We have whole industries devoted to chance, from gambling to the stock
market. Look at the number of terms and clichés that treat these matters;
tough luck, good luck, take your chances, those are the breaks. Stories and
songs celebrate the joys and sorrows of twists of fate.

As Kenny Rodgers said:

You gotta know when to hold 'em
Know when to fold 'em.
When to walk away and when to run
Never count your money
When you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for counting
When the dealin's done
