[Krimel] So if it helps to make amends I think I paid for my sins of yesterday.
[Arlo] No amends ever necessary, amigo. On my end, I am still a bit "aggressive" fending off (perceived) attitudes that I have been battling against since I was 15, a holdover from my punk days I suppose. I tend to walk the line between supporting what I see as "Good inking" (spiritual, artistic, transformational and healing activity) and the commercial fashion-accessorization that gets worse every year (and not just regarding ink or stainless steel). Since Khaled mentioned gang and prison tattoos, I've found an interesting article in JSTOR called "The Convict Body". "If the physical body serves as a site on which gender, ethnicity and class are symbolically marked, tattoos and the process of inscription itself create the cultural body themselves, thereby creating and maintaining specific social boundaries. Tattoos articulate not only the body, but the psyche as well. In her discussion of fashion Kaja Silverman writes that clothing (and I would add tattoos) 'not only draws the body so that it can be seen but also maps out the shape of the ego'." (Margo Demello) Its an interesting article. I can forward you guys PDFs when I get back to the Academy (I am at my mother's playing nurse for 10 days as she recovers from a surgery.) moq_discuss mailing list Listinfo, Unsubscribing etc. http://lists.moqtalk.org/listinfo.cgi/moq_discuss-moqtalk.org Archives: http://lists.moqtalk.org/pipermail/moq_discuss-moqtalk.org/ http://moq.org.uk/pipermail/moq_discuss_archive/
