Hi Platt We see a change in the technology of the media, we also see changes in the level of awareness, it is true to say that the two are conincident, but I dont necessarily see evidence to suggest one is caused by the other or vica versa. Seems better to say that the invention of writing was accompanied by a change in the level of awareness in that society, or that increases/decreases in the level of awareness/consiousness in modern society have been accompanied by the emergence of computing.
