Your 'continuum of overlapping clouds' is reality as far as physical
measurement goes, you either need to use an additional feature from
somewhere else on the anatomy, in addition to the data you have or use a
technique like DNA in addition to your physical dimensions as an
additional axis, which will bring some definition into the overlapping
areas.
