Hello All, I am a beginner. I have scanned a longitudinal series of mandibular and maxillary dental casts, sample size 10, with a 3-D scanner, (OrthoInsight Motionview 3-D Scanner) exported the scans in a .ply format, imported the scans into Landmark Editor and placed 12 single point landmarks (primitives?) onto each mandibular scan. I corresponded the points I made on each new scan to the one immediately before it. I started a new Landmark Editor file for each individual in the sample. I exported each individual file as a .corr, .pts and as .dta file. I can successfully import the individual .dta files into Morpho J, but I must create a new data set each time. Morpho J will not import the folder of .dta files on the desk top.
Going back to Landmark Editor and finding the PDF of instructions on the internet, I realized my mistake and tried to export the files as a "project." When I did this, I got a message about an atlas......... Unfortunately, the class instructor and the materials in the class did not mention choosing an atlas when placing landmarks in Landmark Editor only corresponding the points! We did review and learn the math and original historical development of geometric morphometrics. I have not been able to find anyone here, including the instructor who is knowledgeable regarding this atlas. It certainly seems to be important!! Or anyone who can help with my immediate problem. I realize I am in way over my head. ( I have an opportunity to continue learning this fall-the online course connected with University of Manchester in England. ) However, in the meantime I so need to finish this little paper demonstrating the benefits of geometric morphometric methods of analysis in human craniofacial growth and development. I am an undergraduate at University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania working on a collection at the University of Pennsylvania Museum in collaboration with the department of biology and the school of dentistry. I very respectfully request your help in this matter as I know all of you are extremely busy.
