Hi Marta, the fastest and cheapest way that I know for taking up linear measurements from pictures is: 1) digitize a landmark configuration with TPSdig (all landmarks that you're considering for linear measurements) and introduce a scale factor so that you'll have measurement in the appropriate unit; 2) use PAST (again freeware... see the link at SB morphometrics) for computing an EDMA matrix and you'll have distances between all possible pairs of landmarks for all your specimens; 3) select only those linear measurements that you need and, maybe, for at least one of them check that results are correct (it can be done very easily in excel with the Pythagorean theorem).
