Yes, that is an excellent point. I bypassed MANY of
those Source of Short Text pieces as a third grade
teacher...way too long and difficult. In addition to
picture books, I often used a Time for Kids from the
4th grade teacher in 3rd because those articles a
little meatier than the 3rd grade ones. Ask magazine
from Carus Pub. also has engaging nonfiction articles.
Then we could practice with the 3rd grade ones. Any
well written text works though. I think I finally
realized that there is nothing magical about the ones
in the kit after I tried using that "Stealing Beauty"
article the first time out...what a flop.
