This is why it was so hard to think of leaving my school last year. Thank
goodness our new administrator embraces what I'm doing. Although I envy school
systems with libraries, leveled book rooms, and other fabulous resources,
having the freedom and flexibility to do things like this is a privilege I
won't easily give up.

read-alouds into my lessons and teach real comprehension strategies and
help my first graders begin to break the code and become strategic
listeners and readers. By and large, I'm comfortable with what I do, but
this lesson just spoke to my soul. Keep on teaching and sharing, Joy, we
need it!!
